Creative Design

Diamond's award-winning team designed an immersive calendar that fuses creative graphic and structural deign, premium print quality, and master-level embossing:

• The trailhead-inspired header showcases six interchangeable National Park scenes, allowing recipients to change the landscape on display throughout the year.
• Each park scene features a unique combination of specialty coatings, cold foil, and dimensional embossing, carefully selected to enhance natural elements such as water, mountains, trees, and wildlife.
• Three wire-bound calendar panels extend below the header, featuring a continuous woodland trail with subtle details that encourage exploration and discovery.
• All cutting dies and counterplates were made in-house by the skillful hands of experienced craftspeople, ensuring precision and accuracy throughout production.

Four-Color Offset Printing

Four-color process printing delivers the WOW factor throughout the calendar, bringing the National Park landscapes to life with remarkable color, detail, and depth:

• The calendars were converted utilizing Clearwater ReMagine™ 30% PCW paperboard, cold foiled, and offset printed with four color process and three PMS inks, supplied by Ink Systems, in-line with UV matte, UV gloss, and UV specialty coatings.
• The six National Park scenes combine high-quality photography with precision offset printing and carefully selected decorative effects to enhance the distinctive colors, textures, and natural features of each landscape.
• Diamond employed its Heidelberg XL 106 10-color offset printing press, which represents the state-of-the-art in package printing technology, providing an unprecedented combination of cost innovation and sustainability.

UV and Specialty Coatings

Tightly-registered coatings were used to enhance the design and highlight the individual calendar components:

• UV matte varnish was used throughout the design.
• UV gloss coating was used on all foiled areas.
• Soft touch coating and reticulated specialty coating, supplied by ACTEGA, was applied to the Grand Teton mountains.
• Textured coating provides haptic feedback to the vivid yellow, orange, and red borders surrounding the Grand Prismatic Spring at Yosemite National Park.

Cold Foil

Cold foil is a cost-effective, in-line alternative to metallized polyester film or specialty foil board. Overprinting offers a virtually limitless palette of color options, while precise registration between the foil, inks, and coatings creates striking visual effects:

• Cold foil, supplied by Kurz, delivers shimmering metallic effects on four of the landscapes.
• The foil was selectively overprinted with semi-transparent inks and combined with specialty coatings to create stunning color, depth, and movement within the landscapes.

Embossing and Debossing

Multi-level embossing lends distinction, dimension, and depth to the design:

• Embossing and debossing were strategically applied throughout the calendar to enhance depth, texture, and realism.

• The trailhead-inspired header features embossing and debossing to accentuate its dimensional wood construction.

• All six National Park landscapes feature embossed elements carefully selected to enhance natural features, including mountains, trees, rock formations, and other scenic details.

• The resulting visual and tactile effects encourage interaction and invite a closer look.

Calendar Pages

• The calendar pages were converted utilizing UPM Finesse Silk 100# Text coated paper and offset printed with four color process inks and UV matte coating.

• The watermarks of the woodland trail setting add realism.
• The unique finish and subtle colors beautifully complement the design concept.

Shipper

• The recyclable shipper was converted utilizing Clearwater Candesce® SBS paperboard laminated to E-flute corrugated fiberboard, and offset printed with four color process inks, in-line with aqueous gloss coating.
• The structural and graphic design is inspired by a vintage canvas hiking backpack, reinforcing the calendar's themes of exploration and adventure while ensuring the piece maintains its integrity during shipping and storage.

• Realistic canvas textures, leather straps, buckles, and travel-inspired patches transform the shipper into an integral part of the National Parks experience.

Sustainable by Design

• The calendar was produced utilizing ReMagine™ paperboard made with 30% post-consumer recycled (PCR) fiber.
• In-line converting techniques minimize material and energy costs associated with multiple runs or off-line production processes.
• Paperboard components were manufactured using 100% clean, renewable wind energy and produced in a Zero Waste to Landfill (ZWL) and Carbon Neutral (Scope 1 and Scope 2) facility.
