Face the Music, All Year Long

Diamond Packaging is proud to present our most electric calendar yet!

The 2020 “Making Music” calendar, which was conceptualized, planned, and produced by the entire Diamond team, pays tribute to an American icon – the electric guitar. The inspiration? A Gretsch G5422TG Electromatic® Hollow Body with Bigsby® vibrato tailpiece.

The calendar features multi-color UV printing, cold foiling, UV gloss spot coating, multi-level embossing, debossing, and intricate die cutting.

  • Diamond employed its Heidelberg XL106 10-color offset printing press, which represents the state-of-the-art in package printing technology, providing an unprecedented combination of cost innovation and sustainability.
  • The calendars were converted utilizing Clearwater Candesce® SBS paperboard, cold foiled, and offset printed with four color process inks, in-line with UV matte, UV satin, and UV gloss spot coating.

UV Coatings

Tightly-registered UV coatings were used to enhance the design and highlight the individual guitar components:

  • High gloss UV spot coating brings out the beautiful walnut finish on the guitar body.
  • Satin and matte UV coatings on the amp (end caps, fabric) provide a striking contrast to the gloss accents.

Cold Foil

Cold foil is a cost effective, in-line alternative to metallized polyester film or specialty foil board. Overprinting offers a limitless palette of color options. Precise registration was maintained between the foil and overprinted inks and coatings:

  • Cold foil delivers shimmering metallic effects on the guitar's tuning pegs, strings, frets, pick-ups, pickguard, and vibrato tailpiece.
  • Rainbow holographic cold foil enhances the pearl inlays.

Heavy Metal Magic

Take a peek at the dies used in the production of Diamond's 2020 calendar.

Metal Magic provided all of the embossing dies after reviewing the graphic and structural design layouts with the Diamond production team.

A collaborative effort between Metal Magic’s designers and Diamond’s lead embossing operator, led to suggestions on optimizing the embossing and debossing dies to add realism to the guitar design.
