Sustainable packaging involves more than choosing the right materials. For today's consumer packaged goods (CPG) brands, it also means finding credible, measurable ways to address environmental impacts throughout the packaging lifecycle.

Diamond Packaging has partnered with PrintReleaf, a sustainability platform that enables companies to measure their paper and fiber-based material consumption and support certified global reforestation.

The partnership expands Diamond's portfolio of sustainable packaging solutions, providing customers with another way to complement responsible material sourcing and sustainable manufacturing with measurable environmental action.

How PrintReleaf Works

Through PrintReleaf's technology platform, the paperboard used for participating packaging programs is measured to calculate the equivalent forest impact in standard trees. A standard tree is PrintReleaf's unit of measurement for forest biomass. It represents a tree equivalent that is 40 feet in height and 7 inches in diameter at breast height (DBH) at maturity,

PrintReleaf supports certified reforestation projects to offset this forest impact, providing documented and verifiable results. Reforestation projects are governed by the PrintReleaf Standard and independently audited to verify project performance and tree survival.

Participating brands can also receive Certificates of Reforestation documenting their impact, providing useful information to support corporate sustainability programs and stakeholder communications.

Creating More Sustainable Packaging Programs

For CPG brands, PrintReleaf can become one component of a broader sustainable packaging strategy.

Diamond works with customers to identify opportunities throughout the packaging development process, from efficient structural design and responsibly sourced paperboard to recycled-content materials, renewable energy, efficient converting methods, and now certified reforestation.

PrintReleaf gives brands another way to support global forest restoration as part of their packaging programs.

"Diamond Packaging has made sustainability part of every stage of the packaging process, from design and materials to how their facility is powered," said Jordan Darragh, CEO, PrintReleaf. "We're proud to add certified reforestation to that work and to give CPG brands a simple way to connect their packaging to verified environmental results."

A Natural Evolution of Diamond's Greenbox Initiative

The PrintReleaf partnership is a natural evolution of Diamond's Greenbox sustainability initiative, which integrates sustainable design, materials, and manufacturing methods throughout the packaging development process.

Diamond's packaging is manufactured from recyclable paperboard, including FSCĀ®-certified options, using 100% wind energy in a Carbon Neutral (Scope 1 and Scope 2), Zero Waste to Landfill facility.

Diamond has also established science-based greenhouse gas reduction targets approved by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), reinforcing its commitment to measurable environmental performance and continuous improvement.

PrintReleaf joins EcoDesignCloud as part of Diamond's growing network of sustainability partnerships designed to expand the resources and opportunities available to customers.

Put Your Packaging to Work for Reforestation

Diamond will initially deploy PrintReleaf in support of a new customer initiative, with the program available to other brands interested in incorporating certified reforestation into their packaging sustainability strategies.
