Diamond Packaging Wins Environmental Leadership Award

Rochester, NY – Diamond Packaging was recognized as one of Rochester's greenest companies during a luncheon event sponsored by the Rochester Business Journal and Bank of America on April 8, 2008 the Rochester Riverside Convention Center.

The Rochester Business Journal’s Environmental Leadership Awards recognizes companies who demonstrate a significant commitment to environmental or conservation issues and who dedicate resources to a project, process or program that ultimately will have a positive impact on the environment. Nominees were evaluated on their efforts in one or more of the following areas: alternative energy use, environmental innovation, long-term commitment to conservation, pollution prevention, recycling/reuse, resource reduction, and green building.

Diamond received an award in the Pollution Prevention category for their greenbox initiative, the company’s commitment to research, design, and implement packaging solutions that are innovative and sustainable.

“The Environmental Leadership Awards were created to honor area companies making great strides to become environmentally sound and helping to make our community a healthier place in which to live,” said Susan R. Holliday, president and publisher of the Rochester Business Journal. “I hope that you and your organization are proud of this accomplishment!”

“We’re very honored to be recognized with this award,” said Karla Fichter, chief executive officer of Diamond Packaging. “The award exemplifies our commitment to the environment and our customers.”

The luncheon was preceded by a half-day, community-wide environmental symposium. Fichter participated in a panel discussion on “Business Advantages to Going Green”. She discussed a variety of initiatives that Diamond has undertaken within the organization to design and deliver environmentally friendly products and services.

Diamond’s greenbox initiative balances business with environmental considerations by promoting sustainability in all aspects of package production. It represents a comprehensive approach to packaging that minimizes environmental impact throughout the supply chain.

Through creative design, careful material selection, and best practices at the plant level, Diamond is able to minimize waste, reduce shipping costs, and increase efficiencies – all of which support a sustainable use of resources and cultivate a positive emotional connection to the brand.

Proceeds from the luncheon will benefit the Seneca Park Zoo Society’s conservation projects. Winners will be featured in the Rochester Business Journal and at a permanent location at the zoo.
