Rochester, NY – Diamond Packaging
won six awards, including Best of Show, in the 23rd Annual
FSEA Gold Leaf Awards Competition, the industry's premier
showcase for foil stamping, embossing, and other specialty
effects. Awards were announced at the FSEA National
Conference in Orlando, FL on April 4, 2016.
The competition, which is sponsored by the Foil &
Specialty Effects Association (FSEA), recognizes creativity
and superior execution of designs that reflect positively
on the industry as a whole. Entries are judged by a panel
of industry experts on several criteria including design,
execution, and level of difficulty.
Diamond won Best of Show, as well as Gold Leaf and Bronze
Leaf awards in the “Calendar” and “Self Promotion”
categories, respectively, for its three-month corporate
calendar, a popular promotional item given to customers and
suppliers. This year’s 2016 calendar marks the 25th
anniversary of a long-standing company tradition. The
grandfather clock theme, with its inner mechanisms
perfectly balanced, was chosen to represent the
collaborative and precise nature of Diamond’s work.
The calendar was converted utilizing Clearwater
Candesce® SBS paperboard and offset printed with four color
process inks, UV matte coating, and UV gloss spot
The dimensional header features a multi-level embossed
and debossed woodgrain pattern, and a striking clock face
insert enhanced with UV gloss spot coating, cold foil, and
multi-level embossing, creating a dramatic sense of texture
and depth. It also incorporates an opening APET rigid
window panel and foil embossed chimes that artfully
simulate a real grandfather clock.
The middle backers also feature a multi-level embossed
woodgrain pattern, and three unique sets of foil embossed
gears enhanced with UV gloss spot coating. Metal Magic provided all
of the embossing dies.
The tightly-registered foil accents lend authenticity to the piece, and were achieved using state-of-the-art, in-line cold foiling technology. They also showcase the type of decorative effects that can cost-effectively elevate customers’ brands.
Diamond won a Silver Leaf award in the “Cold Foil (Sheet or Rotary) on Label/Carton” category for Iovate’s Pro Clinical Hydroxycut Instant Drink Mix folding carton.
The carton was converted utilizing Clearwater Candesce® SBS paperboard and offset printed with four color process inks and two spot colors, in-line with UV gloss coating. Cold foil combines with Cast and Cure holographic effects to enhance the front, side, and top panels. Embossing and blind embossing add an appealing tactile quality that promotes consumer interaction.
Diamond also won a Silver Leaf award in the “Difficult Application of Foil/Embossing on a Folding Carton” category for The Lovely Distribution Company’s Sarah Jessica Parker Lovely folding carton.
The carton was converted utilizing FSC-certified Iggesund Invercote G paperboard and offset printed with pink, metallic gold, and dense black inks, in-line with UV matte coating. A repeating circular pattern of silver foil adorns the front, side, rear, and top panels. A gold foil stamped and embossed LOVELY logo on the front panel adds distinction.
Diamond won a Bronze Leaf award in the “Creative Use of Specialty UV Coatings” category for Elizabeth Arden's 5th Avenue Only NYC folding carton.
The carton was converted utilizing metallized polyester board and printed with UV flexo fuchsia purple, dense black, and opaque white offset inks, in-line with DiamondTouch soft touch coating, UV matte, and UV gloss spot coating. The high gloss embossed accents on the front panel provide a stunning contrast to the interlaced matte and spot UV gloss pattern surrounding it.
The combination of color and textures reinforces 5th Avenue as a prestige brand, and beautifully complements the primary container – a glass bottle with tall clean lines, purple color palette, and gold infused cap.
All of Diamond’s winning entries were manufactured using 100% clean, renewable wind energy and produced in a Zero Manufacturing Waste to Landfill (ZMWL) facility.
